C. Highsmith-Hooks is a criminal investigator currently who is "into" the macabre. She is a licensed, registered Medical Laboratory Technician with a B.S. in Criminal Justice and a Master of Forensic Sciences degree. She is two courses shy of being a certified Crime Scene Investigator.

She is an active member of the International Association for Identification and the International Association of Bloodstain Pattern Analysis. Earlier this year, she was selected for the American Academy of Forensic Science. Her future plans include writing a series of psychological thrillers with an emphasis on the forensic aspects of crime-solving. She is the author of one book, The Soul of a Black Woman, a poetry anthology published in November 2002. She lives in Riverside, California with her husband, son and mother.
