Children of Morpheus is a collection of short stories and poetry from the pen of Danielle Ackley-McPhail. The topics range from a wonderfully poignant poem dedicated to her mother to a story of a young child attending her mother's funeral. The stories and poems cover such a wide range of subjects that it is impossible to accurately categorise the collection, except to call it a work of creative fiction. Each individual work provokes different thoughts and emotions and it is due to this that the whole collection must be treated with respect. Whenever I am presented with a collection such as this I am tempted to breeze through the entire work in a matter of minutes. To do this with the Children of Morpheus would be to do it a serious disservice. These little gems should be savoured. Each should be allotted a suitable amount of time, allowing the reader sufficient opportunity to grasp all that is on offer. This is a tiny little treasure trove - filled with joyous content. I do not apologise for the brevity of this review. It is impossible to say too much more without dissecting each individual offering and to do this would take away the pleasure of discovering what is written on the next page. |
