Vampires and quasis live among humans, often unnoticed in this intriguing new world. Like ordinary people, there are good as well as evil ones. One of those on the side of good, Donovan, was charged in Roman Britain with the task of protecting a girl, but instead, he is bitten by a man who lacks a soul and thus a bond is woven between them.

This bond will be a source of agony for Donvan until the 1800's when a girl, Iceni, enters his life. Her mission is to stop Vastos and save the children he would usher into his dark world, and to do so, she must have Donovan's help. Never has either of them been in more danger than they will walk into when confronting the evil one, and never before has such a price been demanded of Donovan.

Traditional and non-traditional vampiric roles mingle together to form a fascinating world. Though a bit more background might have been useful in knowing how this variation of the story works, this is a compelling drama, sure to captivate those who want something different combined with the familiar.
