This book was a hoot!! What could an NHL Star Goalie, a recently jilted White Witch, a bunch of orphans, a murder of crows and a fundraising season possibly have to do with each other, well read on and enjoy. Jason Pickering Godard. the Ice Wolf, star goalie of the Wardens, and reality show winner of the World's Best Kisser, has been benched due to an injury to his knee, popular consensus is that he'll never play hockey again but even though he refuses to believe this, he has agreed under skillful manipulation by his adoring Grandmother, the formidable Bessie Pickering Hazard, to head up the fundraising drive for the Pickering Foundation which in turns funds a boys orphanage. Kira Fitzgerald, a lone White With who swore off men after catching her fiancé cheating, meets the Director of Special Events as she is burning the last of her wedding invitations and chanting a spell on her scummy ex-fiancé. The ensuing conversation is nothing short of hilarious and even though they have both sworn off the opposite sex, the sparks fly. Jason is intrigued by the sassy, in your face, take no prisoners Kira and finds himself far more enthralled as the days go by. Kira, who isn't one to back down from a fight and tells it just as she see's it, with often hilarious results, is quite surprised to feel herself attracted to the sexy jock, and even more surprised to find that her affection is not simply physical attraction. With a busy events schedule to plan and living in the same place albeit different suites, they find themselves becoming much closer than either though possible and constantly being thrown together for unusual reasons, like needing to find a ghost for a charity “Ghost Tour” of one of the foundations Mansions, where they end up in the middle of an old mystery, complete with a murder of crows. Or when limited funds for recreation for the boys at the orphanage get Jason drafted, despite his protestations, to coach the boys at hockey. But it's a pair of towheaded, freckled twins who twist both Jason and Kira's hearts and give the story a very touching quality. It's only a matter of time though until Jason heals enough to get back on the ice, and even though they both said they didn't want any ties, Kira is very much afraid that her heart is about to be broken. This is a light, sexy, paranormal chick lit story, it has wonderfully tender moments, and the characters genuinely grow to like and respect each other in addition to being attracted physically. There is just enough angst, witty repartee, and sizzle to make this a highly enjoyable book to read, not to mention some just plain laugh out loud moments. This is the second book in this series and it's been a fun, sexy read so far, and I'm looking forward to book 3. |

At his grandmother's request/insistence/guilt trip, hockey great Jason Goddard agrees to spend his six month medical leave working with her adoption foundation to help make it solvent again. Working with him will be Kira Fitzgerald, a self-proclaimed witch, who has recently been jilted at the altar and is just a little bitter towards the male gender. The two set off sparks between each other immediately, but at first they are more of anger than anything else. However, time and close contact wear down both Kira and Jason's resolve. As they both heal, attraction ignites, working the oldest magic of all, love, on their hearts. Though the comedy is somewhat bawdy and shallow, this lightweight read will pass the time agreeably enough. Jason's grandmother is a fantastic character, providing some truly good laughs. However, all banality aside, seeing people, even imaginary ones, so dedicated to helping others as the three main ones are, is heartwarming. |
