Blackwind: Sean and Bronwyn is an incredibly moving story of the depth of love between soul mates and the heart twisting events they endure. Sean Cullen has known Bronwyn to be his mate since he first laid eyes on her as a young child, but his life has not been easy. As a child of an abusive violent father, he has suffered greatly but his one purpose has remained to protect and love Bronwyn. Bronwyn has loved the rough boy from the wrong side of town as long as she can remember, but her overprotective parents are determined that Sean is not for her regardless of her unfailing and unceasing admonishments that she loves him. Despite the physical abuse of Sean's home life, and the constant need to keep their love secret, Sean and Bronwyn share the deep and abiding love of true soul mates. The story follows them through their youth to young adults and takes the reader on a rollercoaster of gut wrenching, heart breaking circumstances. From the US to the green fields of Ireland, both will learn things that seem far from the realm of possibility and will suffer greatly for their discoveries. With Sean's discovery of his Reaper heritage and Bronwyn's discovery of the existence of the Nightwinds and other night creatures, normal life will only be a memory. They will be deceived, imprisoned, kept apart and forced to suffer great physical and mental anguish but not even death can kill their love for each other and their individual capacity for both goodness and self sacrifice. Charlotte Boyett Compo's novels are the very definition of Dark Fantasy. They are not necessarily HEA novels but reflect the intense emotions of multi faceted characters with deep and abiding love, honor, sacrifice, pain and extreme suffering but regardless of how beaten and battered, there remains a spark of humanity deep within her characters and hope burns strong in their souls. This is an intense, gripping novel, one you won't be able to put down, and I recommend you either have Blackwind: Viraiden and Bronwyn sitting beside you or have quick access to it as you won't want to wait to read the sequel. |
