As far as I can tell, Charlotte Boyett Compo does not know how to write a bad book. Longing's Levant is another in a long list of dark sexy novels with engaging characters and interesting situations.

Longing's Levant tells of the beginning of the Reaper's and how they came to be on Earth. Set in the far future, long after the demise of fossil fuels and most technology, man has reverted to an almost feudal society with magical influences.

Longing's Levant brings together four supremely interesting characters. Evann-Sin, a warrior extraordinaire, Tamara, a Hell Hag, and Evann-Sins fated mate, Kaibyn Zafeyr, a demon and Cainer Cree one of the first Reapers.

During Evann-Sinn's return from his best friend's funeral he is set upon by a band of Hell Hags, whom he had run into prior to learning of his friend's demise. Tamara, one of the Hell Hags and his fated mate, had been rendered unconscious and unaware of what her sisters had planned. When a twist of fate saves Evann-Sinn from death, she avenges him by killing the Hell Hag who had stolen her intended, thus beginning their incredible journey. Though Tamara is one of the Daughters of the Night she has not become One of the Blood and openly disagrees with some of the tenets of the Daughters of the Night.

When a traitorous lover condemns Kaibyn Zafeyr to eternal damnation, he is saved by the same Magi who saved Evann-Sinn and he is told he will join with Evann-Sinn and Tamara in a race to prevent the Lilit, Queen of the Daughters of the Night (Hell Hags) from enslaving the entire world when she turns them into mindless followers.

When Tamara is abducted during a horrific battle by Queen Lilit and her minions, it becomes apparent they need additional help and when Evann-Sinn is confronted with where he must go to save his beloved, he realizes he must commit to something terrible to save his love. Together they journey to the isle of Longbhriseadh to seek assistance from Cainer Cree.

Will Evan-Sinn's selfless sacrifice be enough to save Tamara from the evil Queen, who blames Tamara for her defeat? Will they be able to save Cainer Cree from his lonely fate? How did the Reaper come to be on Earth? Will they be able to save their world from being held in thrall by the evil Queen?

With the history of the Reapers, the intensely intimate, erotic relationship between Evann-Sinn and Tamara, some really unique Earth history, add a demon, a couple of magi, an undead or two and you can not help but have a very dark, sexy tale, and Charlotte Boyett-Compo writes the best of the best.
