Having died, been resurrected as a Djinn, saved the world, left the Wardens and then woken up human again Joanne Baldwin had just about had enough. She just wanted to spend time with her Djinn boyfriend David. But the Wardens senior leadership are dead and the Djinn are disappearing and Joanne is on the run from the remaining Wardens who, needless to say, believe she is in someway responsible for the chaos. So when she is approached by some of her ex-Warden colleagues and asked to try and destroy a young man, Kevin, she is reluctant to help. To force her to comply the wardens take David, her Djinn, and refuse to reunite them unless she helps them. But how will she get close to Kevin? He is holed up in Vegas and has erected a magical barrier around the city that prevents any living soul from approaching... (OK, guess how hey get round this one). What ensues is a cosmic battle as Joanne tries to stop Kevin wreaking havoc but at the same time trying to find a way to get David back. The Weather Warden series of books are great fun. Joanne is a strong opinionated woman who knows what she wants and goes after it in fast cars and stylish shoes. She definitely doesn't pull her punches! But, in reality, all she wants is to be left alone to live her life with David. So when she finds herself in the middle of a battle between the Djinn, the Wardens and the Ma'at she knows that things are going to get messy. I love these stories. Whenever I get the chance to read one I can guarantee it will not last more than a day or so as, once I start reading, I find it very difficult to put them down. I just want to find out what is going to happen on the next page and with Joanne Baldwin you can be sure that the story will take some quite unusual twists and turns – even death cannot stop her, In fact dying seems to be becoming one of her main hobbies!! A thoroughly enjoyable romp through the world of the supernatural – who ever thought that a weather girl could be so interesting! |

Book Three of the Weather Warden Series is every bit as enthralling as the others, do yourself a favour and get the set, currently at 4 volumes, because you will want the next one as soon as you put this one down. With David free, but Jonathon enslaved to Kevin, and Kevin in possession of all of Lewis powers things look very bad, the only saving grace being that Kevin has no idea just how much power he holds in his hands. Joanne, knowing the abuse he went through with his wicked stepmother, is firmly against his just being taken out before Lewis's powers can be returned or to get Jonathon back, and it's equally unlikely Jonathon will go willing into captivity in a bottle. With only their faith and trust in each other, Joanne and David are battling forces far more diverse than anyone could have imagined and David is steadily weakening, becoming closer and closer to becoming an Ifrit, a Vampiric being who lives on other Djinns souls. With the Djinns becoming more militant, and the weather getting further and further out of control, something has to be done and once again it looks like Joanne is the pivot in a struggle to regain balance before chaos takes over. Once again, Joanne's past creeps in to wreak havoc, and seemingly unconnected things are taking on greater significance as the players expand into the human criminal realm. With unexpected twists and Joanne's desperate attempts to keep David from becoming an Ifrit, Lewis's rapidly failing health and the resultant earthquakes, the tension ratchets up another few notches and resolution becomes imperative but again, something is continuing to brew in the background and forces are working at odds to each other. A great book though I don't think you'd get near the same effect without reading the previous two, in fact for me, as I read one right after another, the story continued seamlessly, and I picked up Windfall just as soon as I finished Chill Factor. Excellent books one and all and available in ebook format at both Fictionwise.com and eReader.com |
