When last we saw JoAnne Baldwin in Windfall, she was on the edge of a war and had just met her newly "born", adult daughter, Imara. However, the half-Djinn's birth came with a price that shattered the contract the Djinn had with the Earth. Chaos reigns. Wardens are dying by the thousands, the Djinn are in revolt, a madman has Jo's sister, and demons are attacking the Earth itself. Jo finds herself hurtling across the country, trying to find a way to talk to the Earth so that she can stop the world from ending, but this time, it does not look as if there are any miracles for her. Despite the slight pun, the only way to describe the effect of this book is it will blow you away. The action never lets up, but that does not mean the emotional factors are skimped upon in the slightest. This is a hypnotic book, one you will be loathe to put down, and when it ends, you will want to scream for it to last longer. Ms. Caine's writing is a force of nature in its own right. |
