As a child, Christopher discovered a power within that set him apart from others, and suppressed it until his only child must have the help only his otherness can provide. Once his healing touch brings her back from what should have been a fatal accident, his life is set on a path that he never wanted.

Granted, healing people is generally thought to be a good thing, but the notoriety is not. The world is divided over whether Christopher is messianic figure or just the opposite. In the tumult of hate, love, and fame, a simple man can find peace in only one way.

If you like Stephen King, then in all likelihood, you would rate this book a four star one. However, a certain crassness of the language and some superficiality of characterisation leaves much to be desired.

Synopsis
A humble man, living alone with the daughter he adores, Christopher Jones might just be the most ordinary man on the planet. Then, one day, a simple roadside accident makes him the most exceptional.

Faced with the loss of his child, Christopher rediscovers long-suppressed childhood powers that fill those around him with superstitious awe. His gifts restore his child but their rebirth comes at a price as Christopher becomes the unwilling center of attention of an ever-widening group of people. Some want to proclaim him a messiah, some the Antichrist. Some see in him opportunities for personal gain or political power. Some want to help him and some want to do him harm?

On the dark side of the city, another kind of power has been awakened. And where Christopher is motivated by compassion and the desire to do good, this Other has more complex and malevolent desires?

AS THE DARKNESS DEEPENS is a multi-leveled novel that works both as a study in horror and a satirical commentary on the way faith and belief are manipulated by those who seek to shape our world.
