This is the latest novel in Janet Chapman's Highlander series and, having read them all, I can say that each one has been excellent and this one is no different. This is an excellent romance series with a bit of time travel, a wizard or two, a guardian, some predestined loves, some suspenseful moments and more than a bit of wonderful romance with thoroughly enjoyable characters all set in a mostly modern time period. Winter MacKeage is the 7th daughter of a 7th daughter and it has been foretold that she will wield the considerable power of a wizard one day. Matt Gregor has bought Bear Mountain and when he steps into Winter's Gallery, he knows he's found just the person to find the perfect location for his new home, or at least that's what he tells her when he tries to buy the painting of a black panther to add to the two paintings he's already purchased. There is something brewing in the time continuum and it does not bode well for the world and existence as we know it, and according to Daar, a druidh wizard, Winter will be the only one with the power to stop it from happening, and she will need to accept that power very soon, something neither her mother nor her father are happy to hear. Her father and 7 other Highland warriors were brought forward from the 14th century by the old wizard Daar, to fulfill a prophecy, the same prophecy that will now claim Greylan's youngest daughter Winter and condemn her to a very long life alone. Matt Gregor has seen something that he wants but he too has a secret that may tear apart Winter's world. A mystic tale of prophecy, the power of love and ability of the universe to embrace change. This is a story filled with the power of love between parent and child, siblings, and the deep and abiding love between man and wife, truly a wonderful addition to the series. If you haven't read the rest of the series, this book will certainly pique your interest and have you headed back to pick up the rest of the series just to learn more about these powerful warriors and the strong women who loved them. |
