When I first picked up the Chronicles of Morgaine I was rather daunted. After I had never read any works by CJ Cherryh and this was a trilogy in one rather large book. Once I started to read it I found it to be an extremely well written novel with strong characters and a cohesive plot. The book immediately passed one of my 1st 'test' – I would get to the end of a chapter, intending to go to sleep, and found myself reading 'just one more' as I wanted to find out what would happen next. The story was well paced. OK, it didn’t race along but equally at no point did I feel it was dragging.

If I were to have one criticism of the book it would be that, for my taste, the chapters seemed rather lengthy. This does not detract from the actual story but personally I prefer my fiction in smaller bites.

An enjoyable read and a good introduction to the work of CJ Cherryh. I will be reading more.
