Countess Jelindel dek Mediesar and Daretor are enjoying their life together. OK, so he is trapped inside the body of Zimak but this just goes to show that if you love a person then the outside appearance is not important.

When Jelindel and Daretor are offered a large amount of money to rescue Yuledan, a town under attack by some kind of winged monsters, they accept the commission and join a caravan to travel there. However, during the journey they are attacked and taken prisoner. When they wake the find themselves held captive by King Amida who accuses them of having stolen an ancient jewel, the Dragonsight. So when Zimak turns up they begin to think that things cannot possibly get any worse – Wrong!

It soon becomes apparent that their old nemesis Fa'red is behind the disappearance of the Dragonsight so when King Amida infects them with a deadly poison, stating that he will only give them the antidote when they return the missing jewel the trio are forced to work together in order to survive.

Soon they are racing across paraworlds following the trail of the missing Dragonsight with the time limits of their quest becoming more and more apparent as they effects of the poison increase. Will they manage to recover the gem before time runs out or will Fa'red finally defeat them? Read and find out.

Dragonsight is the third book of The Jelindel Chronicles and follows the escapades of Jelindel, Daretor and Zimak as they seek to recover the lost Dragonsight jewel, the left eye of the Sacred One (an ancient dragon). To focus their attentions on the quest, all three have been infected with a deadly poison, the only antidote to which is held by King Amida.

As with the other books in this series Dragonsight is incredibly readable and keeps you entertained from the first word to the very last. I have read a number of works by Paul Collins and I feel that this series is about the best he has written.

The characters are so vivid and enchanting. I particularly enjoy the interplay between Jelindel and Daretor as their relationship develops and Jeli comes to terms with the fact that the man she loves no longer resembles the man she fell in love with.

The story takes an interesting turn when Jelindel is forced to confront the loss of her magical abilities. She has previously relied on her talents to help her escape most situations but when her magic is restricted she has to find new ways to regain her freedom and continue the quest.

This is some of the finest new fantasy available at the moment and I would recommend it to any fan of the genre. The next book in the series is Wardragon and I cannot wait to read it!
