Synopsis
With THE GOLD OF ATTILA, the Rhine Lord series reaches its stunning climax.
Despite an apparent final victory, the Roman officer Flavius finds that his
shadow war with unseen foes must continue. The Chief Mage is still alive, still
spreading the chaos that threatens to tear the Roman Empire apart. But now the
dwarf leader has enlisted an even greater ally, none other than the King of the
Huns, Attila. Worse still the dwarf has a plan that threatens death to every
citizen of the Empire. Flavius's only hope is to weld together a disparate band
drawn from three mutually antagonistic cultures: Romans, Germans and "Mist
Folk"--the dwarves of ancient European legend. He must lead then his party on a
journey to the east, to confront the Mage at the barbaric court of King Attila.
But a secret traitor rides with them, ready to strike at the Mage's signal. Of
even greater consequence to the Roman officer, his beloved Gutrune must share in
a mission that means certain death. In a rousing finale beyond the bounds of the
civilized world, Flavius must try to save his world--and the woman he loves.
Based on the Niebelungenlied and the Volsung Sagas, and set against an
authentic Late Roman background, THE GOLD OF ATTILA is an ancient tale reworked
into an epic for the Third Millennium.
