Arrow, the Champion of the Red Feather Clan has come to beg the Black Council to assist in stopping Balthazar, a rogue magician, destroying her people. The Council agrees and sends Thraxis, another magician, to assist. However, Thraxis has a problem... During his last encounter with Balthazar he was cursed. In order to prolong his life he is forced to use all of his magical powers to keep the curse at bay. Each time he uses his magic for some other purpose he significantly reduces his life expectancy. Tyrant Moon is a lovely little fantasy story. The writing style is quite unusual in that the story is told over two converging timelines that describe both the current time adventure and the actions that caused Arrow to ask for help in the first place. As with most fantasy stories there is a nice build-up of sexual tension between two of the characters and a major plot twist that for once I did not predict. Elaine Corvidae has written a fun story with excellent interplay between the main characters. They are well described and believable with all the prejudices and hang-ups that two people from such vastly different backgrounds would have. I loved it! |
