A Touch of Fae is wonderfully sexy second novel of the Charvez women. When Queen Aine of the Fae, sends Conchobar, (Con) to watch over a witch named Em who is researching the history of an ancient evil, he is unprepared to meet his fated mate and being ordered to keep himself and the existence of the Fae from her is not destined to help matters any. Em has gone off to London on her own to search for an ancient text and finally forced her way out from under the powerful umbrella cast by her family, a family where the matriarchal line wields powerful magical powers, and her sister Lee, is one on the most powerful witches in generations. Em has long been overshadowed and unappreciated for the amount of power she herself wields. As a very strong empath with an innate talent for research se has become one of the most widely learned witches on the planet, but the book she's seeking is an old, very powerful Fae text missing for millennia. When Con is finally able to make contact with Em, he is determined that she be his, Em, knowing nothing of Con's agenda is equally determined to shed her bookish appearance for something a bit more wanton and a "chance" meeting with Con, seems like just the way to do it. As an empath and a crack researcher on all things magical its darn hard to put anything past Em and when she calls Con on a couple of inconstancies, she discovers he knows Aidan, her Vampire brother-in-law, who in turn, fills her in on Con's fae roots but when she finds out he set her up to meet him and has been watching her, she storms out of his suite, something that has never happened to Con before. When he makes his way back to her and hears her sobbing, nothing matters but setting things to rights. When Em convinces him to show himself without glamour, she discovers this is the man who she has been dreaming of since she was 14 yrs old, whom she'd loved all this time. With the much of the initial searching complete, and the two of them looking, they find the ancient text secreted away in an immense magical library. Returning it to the Queen of the Fae, is less traumatic than telling Em's family that she will be marrying a Fae warrior but even under magical protections the book is not safe. With Em's burgeoning powers as a newly minted member of the Fae, she prevents the Queen from being killed when the ancient book is stolen, but they must get it back before it can be used by the Evil one intent on breaking the millennia old compact and wreaking havoc among both humankind and fae. Will Em be able to retrieve the text? Will Con be able to protect her against both evil fae and the ancient Evil stalking her? Will Con's past prevent him from acting as he needs or will his love for Em bring him through? This is a truly diverse series of magical beings with the bonus of being a wonderfully sensual read. It is humorous, sensuous, touching, and suspenseful with some neat twists. I thoroughly enjoy reading both volumes and look forward to the next is this sexy series. |
