Just when Victoria Grantworth's head should be filled with frivols and fun, her life is turned upside down as she learns that she is one of the Chosen, a Ventare, called to slay vampires, and as her aunt's heir, someday to lead the Ventares. Love and marriage, even to a man she loves as dearly as Philip Rockley, should not enter into her world now, but her heart is defiant at the most inopportune of times. The Queen of the vampires is trying to claim a book written by a demon's child that will allow her to enslave the world, and Victoria, along with Max, another slayer, must stop her, no matter the price.

Yes, there are inevitable comparisons to be made with Buffy in this Regency set adventure, but only superficially. This story does not fit into any mold of preset cliches. It is heart-rending and passionate with a solid plot and compelling characters who drive it to a too soon end.
