Jasmine is out for revenge. Jack Dwyer, his sister Courtney (the owner's of Bridget's Irish Rose pub), his friend Molly and the Prowler bartender Bill Cantwell are the target of her revenge for their killing of her mate, Owen Tanzer, the former alpha of her Prowler pack. Jasmine captures Bill's niece and uses her as bait to lure Bill away from the Irish Rose believing that it to divide her opposition will make her revenge easier to attain. At the same time as Bill heads off to track down his niece, Jack and Molly head off to investigate a brutal murder they believe to be the work of Prowlers. With Bill, Jack and Molly gone and not answering cellphone calls, Courtney decides she needs to act. She contacts the Prowler underworld, the community attempting to live in peace amongst humanity, asking for their help to find her family. Realising that Jasmine is a threat to them also, capable of exposing their society to mankind, who would hunt them down and wipe out their kind, they agree to help her. This is the fourth outing for Jack and co, and it's somewhat of a conclusion to the saga, involving as it does a fight between the two opposing factions of Prowlers. And the author does manage to convey something of a climactic feel in these pages. It's a fitting end to the series, these have been very enjoyable books – not too demanding on the reader, very fitting for books aimed at younger readers. The characters are friendly and familiar (being the fourth time I've read them) and this is a wonderfully relaxing book to add into the reading schedule. It's a book that restores the desire to read after a few more demanding books. It's mind-candy. It's not the most original book, nor is its prose going to win the author any awards. But like the others in this series it will entertain, and it should hopefully gain the genre a few new fans. |
