Oliver Bascombe always wanted to be an actor but his family, and in particular his father, had other ideas. Eventually the pressure became too much and he gave up his dream and joined the family law firm. But he still felt that there was something missing. Still, he was following a path that his family approved of.

It is the eve of his wedding to Julianna – a beautiful young woman who would be perfect in the role of the successful lawyer's wife. He knows that he loves her but he is still filled with a slight feeling that he is losing control of his own life. While enjoying his last few hours as a bachelor he discovers an injured man outside his home. If this wasn't strange enough, when the man regains consciousness Oliver finds out he is Jack Frost and he is being pursued by a creature intent on destroying all the characters we know from myth and legend.

Suddenly Oliver finds himself dragged through the Veil into an alternate reality that runs alongside our own but which is shrinking as the inhabitants are killed. But it is not Olive Bascombe the solicitor that can save them. He will need to become an adventurer and hero. Despite being hunted along with his new companions Oliver finds himself enjoying life and experiencing a freedom that he as not known previously.

Will Oliver be able to save the world on the other side of the Veil before everything is destroyed? Will he ever see his fiancee again? Will life ever return to normal?

Christopher Golden is an author I have read for a number of years and I have never been disappointed. The Myth Hunters did not change this. It is a totally original concept that he exploits with the skill and style I have come to expect from his stories.

This is a well written thoroughly enjoyable fantasy story that would be an ideal next step for a young reader to move towards more adult literature as there is nothing within this book that could cause offence to anyone. Yet this does not hamper the writing style as Golden manages to write a full-blooded story within this framework.

At the end of this book there is an intro to the next in the series and I am looking forward to reading it when it comes out next year.

Synopsis
In this enthralling new series from bestselling author Christopher Golden, one man is drawn into a realm just across the veil from our own, where every captivating myth and fairy tale is true, the vanished exist -- and every fear is founded.

Yielding to his father's wishes, Oliver Bascombe abandoned his dream of being an actor and joined the family law firm. Now he will marry a lovely young woman bearing the Bascombe stamp of approval. But on the eve of his wedding, a blizzard sweeps in-bringing with it an icy legend who calls into question everything Oliver believes about the world and his place in it....

Pursued by a murderous creature who heeds no boundaries, Jack Frost needs Oliver's help to save both himself and his world-an alternate reality slowly being displaced by our own. To help him, Oliver Bascombe, attorney-at-law, will have to become Oliver Bascombe, adventurer, hero-and hunted. So begins a magnificent journey where he straddles two realities...and where, even amid danger, Oliver finds freedom for the very first time.
