Darcy McCain is in prison for a crime she did not commit. After receiving a letter, leading her to believe that new evidence can clear her, she escapes. Darcy has to return to her hometown where the murder was committed in order to see the letter writer. Time is short as he is dying. Darcy's husband is convinced of her innocence and willing to help. A society called "The Committee" was formed many years previously of several local men, and carried on through their sons and daughters...

Darcy's father was a member and her schoolfriends including the local female sheriff who is also out to find the escapee. The "Committee" is more than meets the eye and involved with the murder for which Darcy was confined.

This is a straightforward mystery story set in rural USA. The characters are everyday members of the local community and totally believable. There is no confusion with each section of the plot, it is very logical. The first chapters of the escape are handled excellently and the dirty state of Darcy is totally convincing. The Sheriff, Amy, is a little overplayed but the result is well concluded.

An interesting and easy book to read.
