When shape shifters and were-beings in her small Louisiana town start getting shot at, Sookie Stackhouse gets worried. Not only is her boss and possible love interest, Sam, a shape shifter, but her brother has recently been initiated into the were-panther world, and she has other two natured friends as well.

When Sam is injured, she is forced to ask Eric, a vampire she has more than passing interest in, for help managing the bar. On the surface, that's a simple thing, but with Eric, nothing is simple. Not long ago, she housed him during his recovery from amnesia, after which he could not recall the days in which he lived with her and fell in love.

He can't remember her killing someone either, so you have to take the good with the bad. In any case, Sookie's closenss to were-beings, shifters, vampires, and fey has made her as much a target as any of them. Finding herself in the middle of multiple magical conflicts is nothing new to Sookie, nor is nearly getting killed. She just hopes she can figure out who's trying to do it now before she or someone she cares about is killed.

Warmly funny and frank, this series continues to be charming. Unlike some well known series, it's not graphic in any area, making it a relaxing read that anyone who enjoys a good paranormal romance or mystery can enjoy.
