This is the third in Kim Harrison's Hollow's series and they just keep getting better and better. Rachel Morgan has made a deal with a Demon to put a Master Vampire away behind bars. Now she has to hope that her carefully worded bargain with the Demon has indeed left her the loophole she needs to keep her soul and her body on this side on the neverworld and save the Ceri, the elf princess currently held as the Demon Al's familiar. Toss into the mix being dumped by her human boyfriend, an werewolf insurance adjuster, Ivy, her Vampire roommate, the head of the non vampire underworld, a tiff with Jenks, one of Rachel's partners, battling repeatedly with Big Al, the demon, a bomb, and a hunky bad boy Vamp who is very interested in Rachel and you have a fast paced, entertaining storyline. The relationship and growth of the continuing characters figures heavily in this book. The learning curve is pretty steep for Rachel on both personal and magical levels as she struggles to learn the meaning of trusting others and the nature of both love and friendship. Additionally she has to learn to harness unfamiliar magic simply to keep herself alive and on the right side of the neverworld. A very entertaining book and a great series! |

In The Good, The Bad, and The Undead, Rachel Marianna Morgan made a deal with Al, a demon, that bound her as his familiar, though her soul remained her own. Now, she finds herself walking a knife's edge, forced into obedience lest she lose herself forever. Despite that, she risks all to save a thousand year old elf child, Ceri, from Al's grip. Though Rachel knows it not, Ceri will prove of vital importance later. For the present, she has to deal with the effects of her other choices as her boyfriend, Nick abandons her and one of her two partners leaves following a perceived betrayal. Not even the fact that one of her favorite rock stars wants to hire her to work security can really salve her wounded spirits. However, the vampire Kisten does help her feelings a good bit. Kisten ia not the only attractive bad boy in her life. Trent has not given up on either coercing her or persuading her to work for him. Toss in a werewolf insurance agent, a bomb, drug lords, and family secrets and you have a dynamic, thrilling, and purely fun read. Ms. Harrison is rapidly becoming the best of the paranormal writers. She is building a world that only grows more fascinating with each new entry. |
