As their father is ill Poppy and St John have been sent to live with their Aunt Kay. As she falls asleep Poppy starts to dream that she is being dragged towards the top of Honeypot Hill. When she wakes up she tries to convince herself that it was just a bad dream – but the scratches on her arms seem to tell a different tale.

A few nights later Poppy is visited by an angel and told that the wildflowers need the help of Poppy and her brother. The pair are taken back to the top of Honeypot Hill whre they are met by a talking dragon who tells them he has been sent to take them to meet the goddess Electra.

What follows is a fabulous adventure as the siblings travel across the heavens, visiting many of the gods and goddesses in their constellations, until they finally reach Electra and discover what task awaits them: only they can prevent Stheno, Medusa's sister, from inflicting a permanent ice age on Earth.

Children of the Stars is the second book in The Wildflower Trilogy and traces the ongoing adventures of Poppy and St John as they realise their destiny. As with the first book in the series, Paul Hayward has intertwined a wonderful little story, about a brother and sister who are tasked with saving the world, with myths and legends of some of the gods, goddesses and their respective constellations. Once again I can picture parents and children reading the book together and then looking out of the window to see if they can identify any of the constellations described within the story. In fact, I have to confess, I found myself telling my mother the story of Cassiopeia as we looked for her constellation last weekend!

I love this series of books. They are as close to perfection, in the world of children's fiction, as you are likely to get!
