Having thoroughly enjoyed the 1st book in this series, The Binding, I was curious how PhyllisAnn Welsh would continue the tale. Book 2 concentrates on the story of Feenix, the female (human) Captain of the Sea Elf guard. Feenix is captured by a band of Night Elves (the sworn enemies of the Sea Elves) lead by L'Garn, a half-breed prince. Initially L'Garn makes Feenix his personal slave as he is curious to learn of his own part-human heritage but soon he finds himself keeping her around for an altogether different reason... Feenix, for her part, is acting as a spy for Rendolin, high priest of the Sea Elves but suddenly discovers that the sea god, Mac Lir needs her to play a major role in the battle against the demon god Tuawtha. Once again PhyllisAnn has written wonderfully colourful, characters with more than one aspect to their personality. The interplay between the main protagonists is entertaining and, at times, you get the urge to grab one of them by the shoulders and give them a good shake! The Choosing is another wonderfully romantic, well-written story that is guaranteed to leave you feeling warm, happy and wanting to read the next instalment. Perfect for the romantic in us all! |
