After focusing on the eldest sister, Sophie in the Sun Witch, the middle daughter takes center stage in Moon Witch when the young seeress is kidnapped by the Emperor's agents. Her rescue comes from a mysterious man, Ryn, who declares her his wife. Not only is Ryn a stranger, but he has a secret that will horrify Juliet. Yet, their destinies are linked together, and she must overcome her horror of not only him, but herself to embrace that role and become what Ryn's people and her own need.

While Moon Witch makes some interesting twists in standardized legends that recall the Cheysuli books by Jennifer Roberson, the plot has a scattered, jumpy quality. The scenes that take place in the Emperor's palace weigh down and cheapen the story as well with the lewd descriptions of rather Babylonian lifestyles practiced by the royal court. If you have nothing better to read, then perhaps you'd enjoy this.
