When she was recalled into active Hunter duty, Kate Connor was so not happy, but now, she's in the swing of things, even managing to schedule demon hunting around Christmas preparations. Then, things start going to Hades, literally. Chaperoning a senior citizen's field trip to her daughter's high school for family day turns into a fiasco of chasing a demon and discovering an otherworldly plot is being set in motion. Before long, Kate is in the thick of things, chasing devil's spawn, hiding bodies, and trying to keep her family from knowing anything, as well as keeping them safe. It seems two demons are trying to get out of the lowest circle of Hell and back to Earth, and Kate has the book that holds the key to their release. Speaking of keys, a mysterious one has shown up, tempting her to open a door that might lead to some either all too welcome or unwelcome truth about her late husband. Does she want there to be a way for him to return, or not? However, her love life is a secondary concern compared to the main problem. Fortunately, she has good back-up. If it were possible to give a book more then five stars, I would. All at once, it manages to be funny, suspenseful, thrilling as one of the better Star Wars movies, and poignant. This book is a joy, a perfect Christmas gift at any time. |
