Kate Connor seems like every other soccer mom, spending her days making sure that the laundry is done, meals are ready on time and looking after her youngest son, Timmy. But her family is unaware that Kate is keeping a secret from them. Before she got married Kate was a demon hunter.

Since her retirement it seemed that demons had kept away from San Diablo but when one crashes through a window and starts to attack her Kate begins to wonder why the demons have suddenly decided to become active again.

After contacting her ex-boss in his Vatican office Kate discovers that the demons are searching for an ancient religious relic that is essential for the raising of a demonic army. It is up to Kate to discover the location of the relic and prevent it from falling into evil hands. But she cannot risk her husband discovering the truth about her past life.

Carpe Demon is a wonderfully light-hearted and entertaining story that follows the experiences of Kate Connor as she battles to prevent demons stealing a religious relic while still managing to act as a dinner party hostess at a moment's notice.

The main character is rather like an adult Buffy whose husband is unaware that his wife used to slay vampires and the writing style is very similar to the TV series with an enchanting humour running throughout the story. This makes the book totally addictive and resulted in my reading it from cover to cover in one sitting.

There is a secondary storyline that revolves around Kate's husband trying to get elected as County Attorney. This often requires Kate to drop everything and create a dinner or cocktail party at a moment's notice – certainly not easy when a demon has just crashed through your window. And what on earth do you do with the body. Demons don't turn to dust when they are killed.

As you have probably gathered, I thoroughly enjoyed this story and I am rather hoping that the three dots that end this book really do lead to another volume. Good inoffensive fun guaranteed to lighten even the very worst of days.

Kate Conner has been out of the Hunter business for over a decade. In that time, one husband has died, leaving her with a daughter, but she's remarried, has a second child, and her only combat against the forces of Hell is doing church work. It's just the local parish, not the Vatican these days. However, that all changes when a demon follows her home from Walmart and breaks a window so it can get in and attack her on the busiest day of her life.

None of Kate's friends or family has any idea what her past life is, and she intends to keep it that way, but she can only blame so many demon attacks on the neighborhood kids' flyballs. Now, she has to brush up on skills she thought were dead, keep her family safe and in the dark, and try to find the bones of Lazurus, yes the Lazurus, before a demon lord does.

She also has to fend off rumors that she's having an affair with the mentor the Furza, the Vatican group in charge of demon hunting, sent. Oh, and then there's the old man, the retired demon hunter she had to bust out of a retirement home run by demons, who is now masquerading as her first husband's grandfather that she has to coral or protect one. Life has just become all too interesting.

This is simply a fun read. The mystery is one that you will suspect the answer to early on, probably, but think there's no way it can be that. Yet, for all the laughs, it never gets silly. Put this on your keeper shelf.

Synopsis
Lots of women put their careers aside once the kids come along. Kate Connor, for instance, hasn't hunted a demon in ages.

That must be why she missed the one wandering through the pet food aisle of the San Diablo Wal-Mart. Unfortunately, he managed to catch her attention an hour later-when he crashed into the Connor house, intent on killing her.

Now Kate has to clean up the mess in her kitchen, dispose of a dead demon, and pull together a dinner party that will get her husband elected to County Attorney-all without arousing her family's suspicion. Worse yet, it seems the dead demon didn't come alone...

It's time for Kate Connor to go back to work.
