This series of books gripped me. I found myself eager to finish each small volume so I could start on the next one. The format of having this intially released in six small volumes enticed me onwards in a way that thick books occassionally completely fail to do.
The characters I found very believable, and despite King's own admission of errors regarding some of the side details I thought the whole setting of the book to be absolutely wonderful.

I thought this series was fantastic! It was the first Stephen King I had read for a few years and it didn't fail me. As always I waited until we had the entire series before starting to read. In a way I wish I hadn't. I think that waiting for the next installment would have increased my enjoyment. At the end King refers to various "errors" in the text. I must say, unless you are an expert on American Culture of this period you wouldn't notice. I didn't!!!

Well worth reading. His best work for a long time.
