When I was younger I used to read just about anything I could get hold of. Since starting work and having a lot less free time I place a higher value on the time I have available to read. Unfortunately, half way through this book I got the overwhelming feeling that I could be spending my time reading something a lot better. It was only through bloody-mindedness that I actually finished it! Don't get me wrong, there is nothing fundamentally wrong with it - the story is OK, the style is simple and the characters are a bit thin but it isn't a BAD book. I suppose if I were 14 again I would have enjoyed it but being long past my teens I found the plot flimsy and the ending extremely predictable. This is the only Koontz horror novel I have read and unfortunately it does not encourage me to read more. However, if someone reading this would like to recommend another of his books as a better option I would be delighted to try it. |
