Hilary, an intelligent screenwriter is stalked and attacked by a man whom she met fleetingly whilst researching a film.

Tony is a compassionate policeman, mentally scarred after a poverty-stricken childhood and lonely life. He has a working partner of opposite ideas of working practices and of a different background.

Both sets of people are hardened to life and determined not to get involved too deeply with anything.

Hilary insists knowledge of her attacker, but upon investigation by Tony and partner, Frank, he (Bruno Frye) is apparently hundreds of miles away at his home.

"Bruno" attacks Hilary again and Tony decides that she is telling the truth. A full investigation ensues to solve the conundrum and against all odds a relationship begins to develop between the Policeman and the screenwriter.

A really, really good book. It has everything, good, solid characters, good plot and a complete story with a good ending. The reader can guess the answer to the enigma quite early on, but this does not detract from the book. It is quite unnerving at times but this is offset by touches of humour, sadness and love. Other characters are included and these are equally well portrayed. I had great pleasure in this read.
