A shortage of available Prayer Ambassadors at the busiest time of year means the Archangel Gabriel must once again call out the Angelic Three Musketeers to handle a trio of special requests. Outwardly, they appear to be simple; find a little boy a dog, help a young lady move past the pain of a long ago divorce, and give a dying old man peace about his wife's fate when he has gone to the light. In fact, God has already put in place the very tools they need to bring about their miracles. Even these three shouldn't be able to cause trouble with such easy requests. Well, make that not very much trouble, considering who we are discussing. Apparent simplicity aside, Shirley, Goodness, and Mercy find that their chosen recipients of grace come with problems that make the gifts hard to grant. Fortunately, they work for Someone who is very good with miracles. Though this latest foray into the adventures of my favorite fictional heavenly messengers is perhaps less whacky than prior entries, I dare say it is by far the best. Long before the last page is turned, not only have I laughed, but have also been moved to the good sort of tears that cleanse as they hurt. Keep a tissue handy. This is a treasure of a book and worth every sniffle. There is plenty of comedy, but the way Where Angels Go touches your heart is the payoff. |
