The gods and goddesses of Olympus are under attack. The moment Capella arrived at the house of Ion, her nemesis on the council, for a meeting things start to go a little strange to say the least – Ion's house begins to dissolve into a vortex that drags them in along with the debris of the house. They find themselves outside the city of Olympus and struggling to remember who they are, although with the help of Dee, Ion's houseguest and also caught in the maelstrom of the attack, their memories are restored and they set about regaining entry into Olympus and overcoming their enemy. When they gain entry back into the city, they find Olympus is ruined, and that they are now longer in the time period they were, finding themselves a good period into the future. And their fellow gods and goddesses are not in as good a condition a they, not having had Dee to help them regain their sense of self, they do not know who they are, nor that they possess powers to resist the invasion. Well this was not the book I was expecting when I picked it up to begin reading. This is not a typical tale of gods, we are not talking great battles of lightning bolts and earthquakes. The gods and goddesses in this are far more normal - almost mortal, and they are required to think their way out of their situation rather than rely on supernatural powers. This is one of those books you are only going to find from small press publishers, it's quirky and different – and whilst maybe not as polished as a mainstream publisher might release it is however an enjoyable read. It's an indication that this author could have a decent future in this game. |
