Charlie MacLean, a restaurant inspector, arrives with his son in Allen's Corner Connecticut, and is
intrigued by the rumours concerning Le Reposoir restaurant. The owners are more interested
in MacLean's son than earning their gastronomic 'stars'.
Plot
A typical Masterton plot. Simply and efficiently written, moving with deliberate slowness and
very macabre, often very gory descriptions at regular intervals, in the author's usual entertaining style.
Characters
The main character is a single-minded devoted father-figure, unusually very hardened to the most
gory circumstances. His companion is very trusting yet well written. The 'bad guys' are macabre,
creepy and very sinister who have odd interpretations of religious texts and rituals.
General
Once again with Masterton, not a book for the squeamish! Sickening descriptions tied to pseudo-religious
practices. A good general story although it can feel a little drawn out.
