A young actress is murdered, gruesomely and with no motive. The Police stop a speeding motorist and are both murdered in a similar way. Passers by see a small, strongly built man in a white mask tearing the officers apart.

Jerry Sennett was an Intelligence Officer during the 2nd World War and working with the American Forces at the time of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki Atomic Bombs. After seeing a facsimile of the white mask on the TV he recognises it from his time in Japan. Then an old sick retired Naval Officer who was a contemporary of Jerry is attacked in Hospital. A diabolical reason for the attacks is suggested.

This book involves the Japanese and their ritualistic society, the US Police, the Government and many civilians. They are all woven together to form an impressive story. I do not always appreciate the style of Mr Masterton, but this book is very unusual and most fascinating. There is a combination of Oriental Myths, Demons, Japanese culture and sheer horror. The characters are very gruesome at times and a good strong stomach is required. However, this is a very good book to read, most "enjoyable", I think, but better read in the daylight...
