Poland, present day. Apparently random people are being killed in a gruesome way. A being inhabits the sewers beneath a hotel under construction. The Polish police and an executive from the hotel chain investigate before building can continue – maybe an exorcism would help...

Plot
Very interesting and unusual plot, written chronologically. Fairly horrific and descriptive in places but interlaced with good investigative chapters and lighter romantic interludes.

Characters
Main characters are well written and have interesting complementary personalities. The being is written in a rather sad, enigmatic, way in direct contrast to its more destructive traits.

General
A typical Masterton, well-written book. Characters include the Polish police, American-Polish executive and underworld criminals all exist together within this story. Horror, seances, investigations and a gentle romance combine well. Great reading and hard to put down.
