Unfulfilled Jack Reed decides to buy 'The Oaks', a derelict gothic mansion and convert it. The mansion is a former (60 years previously) asylum. Reed discovers the Asylum closed suddenly when all the inmates disappeared in one second. But they are still there somewhere – and they have his son!

Plot
An intersting and unusual plot set in and around the mansion. The story moves along easily and covers both horror and Druidic mysticism. It is very descriptive but not overtly shocking.

Characters
Excellent characters inside and outside the Oaks. Jack Reed is a good balance between a devastated father, unhappy husband and a determined man. The inmates are unique and not over-described or laboured.

General
One of Graham Masterson's better horror stories. Very creepily insinuated circumstances and not too much out and out horror. A book with a story to relish, not just out to shock. It is very difficult to put down
