Forensic archaeologist Andi Monroe gets the chance of a lifetime when she is assigned to excavate Dreadmoor Castle where legends claims fifteen knights vanished without a trace seven hundred years ago. It does not take her long to discover that the knights are still there, "living" as ghosts, cursed to remain there forever, unless someone can be found to free them. In particular, one of them, their lord, Tristan de Barre, the Dragonhawk, fascinates her. She saw him once, years before, when his spirit helped save her life then vanished. Now, getting to know him is the most incredible thing that has ever happened to Andi. As their love blooms, however, the impossibility of the situation becomes apparent. Either Tristan and his men will remain ghosts and cursed, thus unable to touch Andi, or she will solve the riddle of their doom and they will depart this world and be at peace. Unfortunately, they are not the only ghosts around, and one remaining spirit is far from being a friendly specter. I will agree with Julie Kenner's assessment; if you liked The Ghost and Mrs. Muir, this is a must read. Ms. Miles eloquently portrays an impossible love and the frustrations it causes both Andi and Tristan. My heart ached for them. The main protagonists are not the only stellar characters, though. All of the fourteen remaining knights and Tristan's mortal servant are equally engaging personalities. I definitely want to read more by this author. |
