Jessi's life has been an orderly one, with carefully scheduled blocks of time laid out before her each harried day. Her goals are clear, and leave no room for romance, though she finds that frustrating. She's not the sort of person that might suffer an attempt on her life, she's too boring. Yet, when that happens, a split second's worth of thought saves and changes her life forever. Against all logic, she recites a rune that brings Cian out of an enchanted mirror just in time to keep her from being killed. Now, she finds herself on the run with a sexy eleven hundred year old druid who just wants to keep out of his enemy's hands for twenty days so that he will be free. Jessi's life is completely upside down, but she's found something more important, love, albeit impossible love. Though the story often goes overboard on sensuality, when it returns to focus on the actual plot, the writing is stellar. Cian's dilema and nobility shine through, and Jessi is a heroine that many readers will be able to find a commonality with. Old friends from prior books make appearances, something that not only adds to the story, but will bring a smile to fans' faces. |

Spell of the Highlander is the newest in the Druid MacKelter series, and once again Karen Marie Moning has written a fabulously enthralling, wickedly sexy novel. Jessica is a dedicated, hard working grad student totally focused on getting her PhD, the last thing on her agenda is a seriously sexy 9th century Druid warrior but when she takes delivery of antique mirror, her life takes a very definite detour from her planned and staid existence. Determined to save Jessica from the assassin come to reclaim the mirror for his evil and ancient master, Cian MacKelter convinces Jessica to call him from the mirror where he has been imprisoned for 1133 years to save her from being garroted. Jessica is still having trouble believing the devastatingly handsome alpha male Cian is indeed telling the truth about the danger to her life until several attempts make it abundantly clear that he is indeed not understating the danger. They determine that in order to escape the minions of the evil sorcerer they must travel to Scotland where Cian will be able to hide them from all the everyday electronic surveillance in the land of his youth. The one real down side to Cian's protection is that the mirror recalls him at random times and he is again stuck in the mirror for an undetermined time, necessitating the need to take and keep the rather large mirror close by. After a close call with a seriously anal lost and found clerk, they are once again on their way and about to meet the sexy, very alpha Druid wizards Dageus and Drustan MacKelter, Cian's descendants. Will Dageus and Drustan be able to help Cian defeat the evil sorcerer and keep both Cian and Jessica alive? Will Jessica be able to live with the discovery of the terrible secret Cian is keeping from her? This is a richly written, wonderful, wicked, sexy, suspenseful novel with wizardry and love woven into the brilliant tapestry. Karen Marie Moning has written another total winner in a series that has been a keeper since the first. If you haven't read her previous books, then you might as well just buy them now, because you will after reading this book and you will be waiting just as impatiently as I do for the next one. |
