I found this book a little disappointing in comparison to the others in this series. It is in most ways exactly the same as the earlier books in the series, a short book seperated into three short stories told at breakneck pace. This one differs though in that there is a fourth associated story in which Elric does not feature, but instead this focuses on Rackhir the Red Archer and the city of Tanelorn. In a way this fourth tale helps with the book, as it provides something a little different than the three Elric tales before it. Those three tales see Elric facing Theleb K'aarna once again and defending his adopted home of Kaarlak against a massive army. It's not that these stories are bad, they are far from that. I just found that they were a little repetitive of the earlier books in this series. They told tales without really adding anything to the general progression of the series. Okay maybe if I had been reading these stories at the rate they originally came out instead of reading 5 books of them in a few months I may feel a little different, but I felt I needed something different. I will be continuing to read the Elric books but I may give it an extended break before picking up the next volume. |
