This book rushes along with almost breakneck speed. There is simply such an enormous amount of plot contained in these 190 pages. Elric has let his homeland and travels amongst the Young Kingdoms. Whilst travelling he is imprisoned (Melnibonéans not being much liked), escapes and is pursued by the townfolk, when he comes across a magical ship surrounded in mist. He joins the crew and soon finds himself fighting alongside other incarnations of Moorcock's Eternal Champion (Erekose, Corum and Hawkmoon) against two sorcerers from another universe.

That finished Elric leaves the ship and joins up with a sea Captain, Smiorgan in an attempt to return to his own world through the Crimson gate to start the books third adventure.

I have seen less storyline in a trilogy of books, each double this length. As a consequence there is little characterisation and the descriptive passages are short and lack the details found in other writings, but I would say that neither of these things detract from the book - it is just according to personal taste. If you like comfortably paced, descriptive prose this might not be for you. If you like adventure pick it up!
