When Askana Moldarin originally approached the privateer Rafe Rafton to help her uncover the instigator of a plot to assassinate her she could never have imagined what this would mean for the future. Now, many years later, the couple have a daughter, Ashtari, and Askana has fully embraced her role as First Queen of Morevi.

But this is no "happily ever after". Although Rafe is Ashtari's father, his daughter barely acknowledges his existence – seeing him as little more than her mother's consort and definitely not a person worthy of recognition.

Then, one night, everything is thrown into turmoil. Although Askana knew she had opponents in the Council of a Hundred Turi and in the land of Eyrie (which shares a frontier with Morevi) she never imagined that she would, almost in the blink of an eye, find herself on the brink of war.

There only seems one option available to Rafe and Askana. They must undertake a risky Riftcrossing. But, as it is clear that they dare not take their daughter along, they make the difficult decision to send Ashtari, future Second Queen of Morevi, into safe hiding.

Legacy of Morevi is the first book in a new series – The Arathellean Wars – based in the same land and with many of the same characters as The Chronicles of Rafe and Askana (written by Tee Morris and Lisa Lee).

At first I was a little concerned when I realised that Tee had written this latest book as a solo effort as I had so enjoyed the previous series written in conjunction with Lisa Lee. With the earlier books you never knew which aspect of the writing related to which author as the two styles merged seamlessly but this book could easily have been a disaster. For all I knew this could have been a beautifully written story light on plot or vice versa. Luckily I need not have worried. This book, although different in style to the earlier novels, is just as entertaining and easy to read.

If you enjoyed the first series of books I highly recommend that you try this latest offering. It is an excellent beginning to what promises to be a superb new series.

Synopsis
Life in Morevi is hardly a "happily ever after" for privateer captain Rafe Rafton. As he deals with the animosity from the Ladies of the Blood and from his own daughter, Ashtari, his only ally is Morevi's First Queen, Askana Moldarin. But soon, the peace they find with each other is shattered in a single night. Now, Morevi faces a threat far greater than that of political opponents or frontier rivals. As their realm stands on the brink of a war they cannot win, Askana and Rafe must risk another Riftcrossing while sending their daughter, the future Second Queen of Morevi, into hiding.

However, the Great Game now stretches beyond the borders of Askana's rule, and plans for the downfall of House Moldarin are set into motion...
