All for One begins with the twins, Andru and Ana almost grown up. At sixteen they are both accomplished and well on their way to learning what they will need to know in order to rule their respective peoples. Andru will rule the Gothman people when his father Darius steps down as they are a patriarchal society and Ana will rule the Runners, following her mother Tara, as they are ruled by either sex. With Ana approaching womanhood, with all the resultant hormones, she is intrigued when she notices a stranger watching her from far in the mountains on her daily rides on her motorbike. She subsequently discovers he is of the Tree people race and that they have come to open talks about a trade alliance with the Gothman and Runners. It is during these negotiations that talk of the Moon people resurface, though this is far from the real reason for the talks. Torgo, Darius younger brother and Syra, Tara's cousin, have both grown to adulthood and after a fight, Syra had left on her age of searching. Torgo, after Syra's leaving, had gotten married after a relationship resulted in pregnancy. Torgo has long denounced his tribe's lack of marital fidelity and even when Syra returns, though they love each other still, refuses to act upon it, providing much angst between the two. Syra's return during the talks with the Tree people results in some unsettling developments, and further underscores Tara's growing unease with the presence on the Tree people. The Twins have both been kept away from the negotiations to keep them both in the background due to Tara's unease. When Ana, chafing at the restrictions placed on a young girl by her family, takes off on her own adventure and ends up in the arms of the handsome, exotic looking younger son of the Barringswood Tree people, Roth, she sets in motion things that have long lay dormant, in the time of waiting as foretold by the old wise women Tara saw when she had been captured long ago. While the romance develops, its Tara's decision to change Ana's status from virgin to women that ultimately leads to events that will put the Gothman and Runners and war with the Tree People, and reveal the secret both Darius and Tara have been trying to hide for so very long. The resulting twists and turns will keep the reader guessing and hoping. A wonderfully fitting third novel with just as many twist and turns as its predecessors. The characters show the depth of their characters, their flaws, their loyalty and their love. While this may not be a happy ever after type of tale, it is still a tale of all the idiosyncrasies of the human condition, good and bad. You can't help but want to read the entire series after picking up any one of the books, they are a journey full of love, lust, heartache, joy and sadness, very much the human condition. Enjoy them, I know I did and I definitely hope there is a fourth novel. |
