Ryne might be a member of the magical security guards known as the Ginial, but even she would never have believed that she'd wake up with a nude, former cartoon man in her bed. Deke had been trapped for nearly five years as a toon after a powerful witch failed to kill him. Not until Ryne realized there was a human soul inside her favorite animated character did he have any hope of rescue. Unfortunately, his freedom might only be temporary. If Ryne cannot find the right spell to permanently reverse her evil nemesis' enchantment, Deke will return and be lost forever.

This very original, extremely imaginative tale is only flawed by the overly descriptive scenes of Anise, the cruel, former magical troubleshooter who imprisoned Deke and who once mentored Ryne, mentally torturing the heroine. Those faint of heart can skip those and never feel the loss, though. Without the graphic excesses, this would have been a four star read. The world building is intriguing and makes you want to know more about this new magic race.

Synopsis
Ryne is a magical troubleshooter, sworn to protect the innocent from being harmed by magic--and she's been chasing Anise, her former mentor, for six years.

Deke is a private investigator who knows something key to defeating Anise. But Anise cast a dark spell over him, and even though Ryne has managed to temporarily lift the curse, Deke can't remember what it is that he knows.

Ryne has sworn to never get involved with a human, but Deke is sexy, charming, brave, and irresistible--and as Ryne and Deke are pulled further into Anise's evil schemes, it's harder and harder for Ryne to resist the attraction.

But dark magic has its own attraction, and in order to defeat Anise and lift Deke's curse permanently, Ryne will have to risk following in Anise's footsteps and succumbing to the lure of the darkness...
