Romancing the Recluse is Michelle Pillows contribution to this pair of sizzling stories. Samantha is terribly rich and terribly lonely, rather despondent over losing yet another job, and one she volunteered at besides and heads for Central Park to clear her head. Arriving there she sees a man laying on a castle wall who doesn't appear to be breathing, with no one else around to call on she decides to try the CPR she had learned to teach to the youth group she's been fired from. She finds the gorgeous hunk is not only able to breathe but kiss like nothing she's ever experienced. The hunk is Viktor Dracodomus, he's a shapeshifting dragon who must find his mate soon or never sire little dragon's. He's been living as a recluse for centuries and has been drawn to New York and the castle in Central Park seeking his mate. When the lovely Samantha tries to save his life with CPR, it almost boils over into something much more. One taste and he knows she is his sought after mate, but she has fled from the park in his moment of confusion and New York is a big place. Can he find his mate and persuade her that she is indeed meant to be with him? Things get very interesting when he does find her and things, including her front door go up in smoke. Tipping the Scales by Mandy Roth is the second in a very good pair of stories. Zarek is Viktor's twin and as such shares the time constriction though he's been out and about in the world unlike his reclusive brother and his only concern is not that he will be unable to sire children but that he will be stuck with one woman forever as dragon's mate for life. When he sets out to find a willing woman for the night at a local dance club, he is very surprised when the one he wants not only can, but does, resist him. Keren is descended from an centuries old line of slayers, and when the girls from her day job convince to go out with them for the evening, she just figures she will go and have a bit of fun, but a slayer's job is never done and when she hits Zarek thinking he just pinched her butt, he kisses her, and gets belted again. When she slips out of the club he follows her only to be confronted by a demon that is also after her. When Zarek is wounded in the ensuing battle, Keren takes him home knowing he's a wounded dragon shifter, not something Keren has been prone to do, esp since her family has been killing them for centuries, but she has never quite been able to reconcile herself to the whole "all dragons are evil" thing and Zarek just risked his life to save her from the demon. But what will Zarek do when he finds out the mate he's sought so long is of the bloodline directly responsible for wiping out many of his fellow shifters? And will Zarek be able to reconcile the fact that Keren is not a shrinking violet but a determined and capable slayer and protector in her own right. Both stories in this duo are wonderfully sexy, well written and fast paced, filled with wonderful characters, sizzling encounters and very interesting situations, complementing each other beautifully, each as delicious as the other. |
