David Price can write quite a decent spooky tale capable of leaving the reader a little unnerved. That's what I found when perservering with this book. The problem is that the first three stories are the weakest in the book and I almost put the book down to try something else after those three.

I am glad I continued as the fourth story 'Brainwave' is very good and gives an indication of the standard of the tales that follow it.

Of the stories in this book 'To The Daemon - We Give Breath', a story revolving around a Victorian asylum in London, is the strongest. Although both 'Deathbed Confessor' and 'Brainwave' do run it close, and the viewpoint of 'The Transportee' is one I enjoyed.

I shall look out for more of David Price's work in future and would advise any reader of creepy horror to do likewise. Of this book I give it six out of ten - would be seven but the first three stories lose it the point. If you want some advise in reading this book then I'd read them in a different order to the one in which they're presented and start with 'Brainwave'.
