With the supposed defeat of Craze, aka David, Talisman Bay becomes almost peaceful, but something is building and Twyla, with her unfolding power is very much afraid of what it may entail. When David reappears at a charity ball and starts causing all manner of trouble for Stephen and Mariah, Twyla takes it upon herself to distract David by dancing with him and when he tries to mind rape her she's not only ready and shielded, but she uses her power to take a quick peak into his mind and is horrified by what she see's there. A woman, tortured by David, tied to a bed, screaming in agony. When Twyla takes Dusty's arm, she senses that somehow this tortured woman will become very important to him and vice versa. Even though Twyla insists they must hurry, Stephen decrees caution and orders the team not to rush over and rescue the mysterious woman in Twyla's vision. Twyla however, is not surprised to meet Dusty at David's house later that evening when she goes to attempt to rescue the mysterious woman. With Twyla distracting David, Dusty steals into the house and is flabbergasted when "Mariah" walks out of an unlocked bedroom with severe bruises on her face and is refusing to be rescued and taken back to Stephen. Dusty knows something is not right, that Stephen would never hurt Mariah, and that though this woman could be Mariah's twin, she isn't. Dusty discovers with Fiero's assistance, that the "Mariah" memories are all planted and that this gorgeous woman has virtually no memories of her real past, even her name is gone. This is just the beginning of the twists in this tangled plot and the significance to an ancient prophecy even the The Order have little knowledge of. With Craze and the Dread Lords back, Stephen is in no mood to take any chances with Mariah and his unborn child, nor is Dusty willing to let Skylar go, especially since its still completely unclear why the Craze has gone to such ends to kidnap her to and create such chaos. As Skylar's memories begin to resurface the waters become further muddied by both Skylar and Mariah's pasts and the further manipulations of The Order. Ashleigh Raine has a talent for creating characters with amazing depth, passion and honour. Her multi faceted characters are riveting in their interactions with each other. Their reactions to the events that contrive to drive all manner of wedges between them are interesting and well thought out. The depth of love between the mated pairs is tangible and their passion all encompassing. Ms Raine has managed to incorporate a great many twists and turns into her plot which will keep you captivated right until the end of the book and waiting most impatiently for the next novel in this wonderfully thrilling series, I personally hope the next volume comes out soon followed by several more. |
