In Talisman Bay there exists a group of men, ShadowWalkers, who fight to keep their town safe from those visitors from other dimensions who would do humankind harm. They fight in the shadows, heroes unknown to the humans they protect, and soon they will be engaged in a fight for an ancient prophesy set into motion by the evil Dread Lords. Stephen, his brother Marlin and several friends had been young and full of life until they were betrayed by someone they called friend, their choice was death or become ShadowWalkers. Stephen, their leader, has worked hard to keep his men alive, but it's a lonely existence and things are about to change dramatically. Mariah is an exotic dancer nicknamed the Ice Queen, who remains untouched and untouchable by the men around her. After being almost killed by a man she thought she loved, she no longer trusts men and keeps herself aloof from all but a few friends. Her life too, is about to be shifted in ways she could never imagine. After Stephen watches Mariah perform, he is amazed at the emotions and feelings she invokes in him, feelings long dormant and he decides to follow her home to insure her safety. It turns out his not entirely altruistic idea was definitely a good one and he saves her from an attack by a demon but not before she is hurt seriously. Something about her compels Stephen to take her back to the Compound, breaking his own rules about the secrecy of the ShadowWalkers. As Mariah recovers, she too feels the compelling emotions she thought were long dead, but it isn't until her best friend Twyla disappears that she is forced to go to Stephen for help in what seems to be a supernatural crime. A case of mistaken identity and a charmed talisman necklace cause Twyla's to be kidnapped in Mariah's place, but the kidnapping is only the beginning of the journey into the dark world of the ShadowWalkers and the fulfillment of an ancient prophecy. Ashleigh Raine has created compelling characters with depth, passion and honour. Characters that will live and breathe in your imagination, that you will cry with and cheer for. The multi level storyline will keep you enthralled and the characters will become friends you want to visit again. The passion between Stephen and Mariah is palpable, explosive and well written, but it's the calling of their souls that will grab you and keep you glued to your seat and make you believe in soul mates. Ms Raine's talent for creating compassionate characters with humour grace and intense passions is a definite gift and one that shines in her work. |
