The power to make a spell work, to not only succeed, but to go beyond expectations is one that any witch would want, but only an evil one would be willing to sacrifice a woman's soul to the devil to gain. The woman in question is Holly McClure, a successful author, witch, and woman in love. Her blood added to a spell will amp it up in unbelievable ways, for she is a spellbinder. She is normally willing to donate the small amount this takes for her coven's use in their white magic. She is not willing to be dead or worse than dead so that a powerful warlock can summon a fallen angel. The battle for Holly's soul and for all mankind is on the horizon, uniting enemies who share a love of the light to defeat the ultimate in evil. With a gentle pace, this story plays out. For much of the tale, it seems that the focus is on angsty romance with brief paranormal interludes. Do not let this fool you. When the story reaches its summit, the battle waged is a powerful one. Overall, there is a feeling of something between Nora Roberts and Mercedes Lackey's Diana Tregarde series. |
