This was the first Mike Resnick I ever read and thankfully I enjoyed it. This is something I am glad of because I have gone on to enjoy all of his other books that I have manage to read this far. This book is not a typical Resnick book by any means. To start with it is a fantasy novel (one set in a slightly altered version of this world, not a totally new fantasy world) rather than a sf book as is more normal for him. Also it includes a fair degree of humour - this is not to say that his other books lack totally in lighter moments, it is just this is the only example of out and out humour I have yet read in his work. The story basically involves a private detective, a little down of his luck who is hired by an elf to track down a unicorn. I would suggest that if you enjoy his writing or just want a good story to read try this book. |
