Following the fall of Atlantis, seven grail kingdoms were established. Six have since also fallen and the last, Hasta, is under attack from Amangans. If he can retrieve the spear, held by the grail king of Hasta then the last will fall and Amangans will gain access to the Gates of Sunset and to Earth.

When the current grail king, Amfortas is tricked into breaking the covenant and making the spear vulnerable, the mysterious archer finds a new guardian for the spear on Earth. A young Australian called Sean Dennis is then involved beyond his control in the future of Hasta.

Encompassing as it does many Earth myths into a consistent narrative is quite a feat. We have Atlantis, the Fates, the Gril, Merlin, the Lady of the Lake, Numenor etc. in this rather slim fantasy novel. But this is also possibly the flaw in the book. For the amount of background and plot the book does lack details. This is rather the opposite of what I find in a fair amount of fantasy novels where there is a tendency to have doorstep sized books when it can take ten pages for breakfast.

The author has created good characters (I like Bala, the master in Hasta particularly) and they all feel well rounded, suggestive of a good back story that I'd like to know more of. Hopefully in future books they will be revealed and explored a little more.

Writing style is something that can be improved as time goes on, what this writer has is a good scope to his imagination. That is something that cannot be learnt. Adrian Rogers might well be a name to watch as the years go by, and for a first novel this is not a bad start.
