Sebastian Rolle, a master Vampire, tries to save a pregnant gypsy woman after a brutal attack. Her dying words to him are about the prophecy regarding the child she is carrying who is destined to mate with a demon - him - and save their people. The baby girl disappears and after 30 years of searching he finally finds her. Her name is Gitana, she has been raised by her grandmother who speaks with the dead and has heard the prophecy her entire life. She is now divorced from her abusive werewolf husband, thought by her grandmother to be the prophesized demon, and is rebuilding her life as an herbalist. The moment Sebastian walks into her shop and sees her, he knows he wants her, and the attraction is reciprocated. Dangers persists with the abusive ex-husband refusing to give Gitana up, and as an Alpha of the pack, he has sends his pack members to harass her. Gitana is not defenseless though; she is a powerful Witch in her own right and has warded her property against anyone who wants to do her harm. Is Sebastian the Demon prophesized to be her mate and if he is, how can he be the one to give her a child when Vampires cannot reproduce? It turns out the Sebastian has some talents unique to even a Master Vampire and once the match is consummated some interesting changes appear to both Sebastian and Gitana. Mandy Roth is an inventive writer of romantica and I have enjoyed her previous books. Gypsy Nights starts with a great premise and shows terrific promise, good plot, great characters but the book lacks the depth in what should have been really interesting characters. I personally think that if this book was fleshed out it would go from be a good read to a great read as this plot line has the potential to be worked into an entertaining series. The adult situations seem to be a bit gratuitous and more for shock value that good erotica. True, this is a shorter story, but I really found myself wishing it were a longer story with fuller character and background development. |
